Support Music on the Harbor

Saturday is a big day for the music departments of Aberdeen and Hoquiam High Schools.  As a former choir member I understand the importance of supporting our local musicians and music departments.  Instruments, trips, sheet music, and costumes cost money and most of the expenses are covered by booster donations from the community.

Aberdeen High School Music Boosters is hosting an auction on Saturday February 2nd at the Rotary Log Pavilion.  For $10.00/person, your ticket gets you in the door to bid on fantastic items from local vendors and themed baskets with wonderful prizes.  Eat, drink and bid to help support the music programs at AHS.

Saturday is also the day Hoquiam High School has chosen to host the HHS Bank Spaghetti Dinner and Auction in the Hoquiam HS cafeteria.  Help raise funds to send the band on their yearly band trip by eating yummy spaghetti and bidding on baskets and items from around the community.

Both events support our local HS and our local students.  Can you think of a better investment for you time and money?

It is exactly what you have been craving.  A juicy patty of beef with endless options of toppings.  Fresh and crispy french fries.  An ice cold beverage, and terriyaki?  The grand re-opening of Maxi Burger in Cosmopolis is one day away and the new management is hoping to make January 21 a fantastic opening day.  If you are craving a juicy giant bite of yummy beefyness you must join the new crew as they grill up your burgers to order in the building accross the street from the Luna Rana coffee shop and eatery on first street in Cosi.

Playoffs? Playoffs!? PLAYOFFS

It has happened ladies and gentlemen, The Seahawks (in case you have been living under a rock) are in the playoffs... and not just wild card weekend, the second weekend of the playoffs!

For those of you who are sports fans this is not new news, but in case you missed it let me give you the lowdown on the last few games and how we came to play the Ravens this weekend in Atlanta.

Way back during draft week last year, we (I will continue to use we here in reference to the Seahawk team, not because I think I am a part of it, but simply because it is easy) drafted in the third round ( mind boggling) a little guy we know as Russell Wilson.  The rest, is history.

After winning the last five games in the regular season, and our Wild Card Playoff game against RGknee...here we are getting ready to play the Ravens.  Seahawk fans around the harbor are gearing up to host playoff parties and even local businesses are getting into the swings of things!  Check our the Dennis Company's facebook page if you want to know what I am talking about.

Let us know how you are celebrating last weeks playoff win and what your plans are for this Sunday morning.  The game starts at 10:30 am.  Are you heading to a breakfast potluck full of eggs benedict and mimosas?  Or maybe you are sleeping in and eating french toast in bed?  While you are at it what are you predictions for the score of the game?  Seahawks 24 Ravens 13 (if you ask me:).  Enjoy the weekend Grays Harbor... and GO SEAHAWKS!

Read A Book! We are talking to you!

Today is the day to begin those New Year's Resolutions.  At least, that is what I told myself this morning, and the past seven mornings.  My procrastination aside, resolutions are a healthy way to assess what it is in our lives that we want to change the most, and then work to change it.

For many, that resolution might involve the gym, or maybe a classroom.  Maybe this year you have resolved to educate your mind.  If that is the case, Aberdeen Timberland Library is here to help.

It all begins with the Connect With Your World - Adult Winter Reading program.  The program is simple, but the results and rewards are huge.  All you have to do, adult population 18 years and older, is read or listen to five (yep FIVE) books between now and March 15, filling out an online review form each time you finish five books.  The beauty of the program is, that each time you finish another five books you can enter to win the prizes (yes PRIZES) again.

Sounds easy right?  And on top of the knowledge that you will gain from all the reading you will be doing, you have a chance to win one of many stays in any one of the lodge/inn/hotel packages that have been generously donated.

So fellow harborites, how about you and I get started on those resolutions.  The weather is certainly going to help out this resolution as it is pouring down rain outside, so head to the library, check out a new book and get started on your way to fabulous prizes!

We here at GoGo Grays Harbor would love to wish everyone a Happy jubilant New Year.

Yes, we do realize that is it the 2nd day of the new year, but have decided that it does not matter which day we wish the sentiment as it will be the "new" year all year (wink wink).

We would also like to start out this new year with a new fresh outlook and are very excited about the coming months and have lots to look forward too!  Stay tuned as we "fine tune" our website and make some fun and unique changes that will greatly benefit our readers.
